PARANORMAL ROMANCE WRITING: A dozen local writers and editors will discuss the craft of writing paranormal romances during NOLA ParaCon, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie. Paranormal romance blends themes from the genres of fantasy, science fiction and horror, including includes elements beyond the range of scientific explanation such as ghosts, vampires, shape-shifters, werewolves and time travel. From 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., authors Diana Rowland, Dawn Chartier and Gillian Zane will discuss creating paranormal creatures such as witches, vampires and zombies while avoiding stereotypes. From 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., authors Alexandrea Weis, Eva Vanrell, Charlotte Parker and Andy Reynolds will discuss incorporating New Orleans as the setting for a paranormal book. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., authors Alys Arden, Lila Felix and Eden Butler and historian Jennifer Dyer will discuss legends and lore of south Louisiana.
